Super Takumar 24mm f/3.5

The purpose of these recent blogs has been to showcase and highlight the visual characteristics of these old, nearly forgotten lenses. Going through this creative process has helped me in many ways. The further I go down this path in life, the more I am trying to combine disparate parts of my creativity. Instead of trying to section things off so much, certain ideas, certain concepts, I am trying to find all the commonality among them and bring those together in one place. Right here. This blog. This website. Knowing that there is even one person that I may inspire encourages me to keep creating and to keep sharing.

As I mentioned in a recent post, these tools are also inspiration. They make me want to pick up my camera and go shoot. By doing this consistently I really familiarize myself with the tools and thus gain a deeper understanding of what they are good for and maybe what they are not so good for. I then have more images to edit which in turn helps me refine my post processing by giving me more opportunities to learn new techniques for adjusting and manipulating things like color and contrast. Further, I now have a small project to share with you. So I combine all these elements here on my website, I practice my writing and storytelling, I practice my teaching, and I get really familiar with platforms such as Squarespace and YouTube. All good things.

Now let me briefly share with you something special. The Super Takumar 24mm f/3.5. This lens is nearly 60 years old and still looks and performs the same today as did all those years ago. The craftsmanship of these old lenses is truly something to behold. Our society naturally gravitates towards the new and we often forget the cool things from the past. Maybe we already got it right, so why keep pumping out more toys to someday forget and throw in the trash. Cool shit from the past doesn’t belong in the landfill. It belongs in the hands of people who are going to use and appreciate it. We need to keep and cherish these things. We need to bring them forward with us through time, repurpose them and stop forgetting so much of our past. If you read this thank you and I hope you enjoy the images. Cheers!
